Salle Church concert

Wonderful English Scene

Last Saturday, my wife and I had to delight of attending the Academy of St Thomas’s Annual Summer Concert in the idyllic surroundings of Salle Church, one of England’s finest medieval churches.

The Academy’s Orchestra was founded in 1973 and has drawn on teachers and professional musicians from the area, as well as further afield.

It was a glorious summer’s evening with the local cricket team finishing its afternoon match as we arrive. An archetypal English scene.

We were able to listen in the church to music of outstanding quality under the Academy’s conductor Matthew Andrews. The solo horn player, Anna Douglass, gave us a masterly performance with a very enthusiastic and accomplished orchestra.

With all the current trouble in the world and concerns surrounding the forthcoming General Election, it was good to be able to escape to another world.
