Norfolk Young Musician Competition 2025

This Annual competition took place on Sunday 12th January, supported by The Michael Badminton Young Musicians Trust.

The renowned cellist and teacher Joely Koos adjudicated, praising all the impressive performances of the 15 participants. Chairman Jonathan Wortley commented on the high standards once again this year.

The prize winners were:

Norfolk Young Musician 2025 – Tristan McCardel Violin aged 16 – Purcell School ( photo with Joely Koos attached)

Second prize shared by Kit Shawyer Violin aged 14 – Sheringham High School and Alena Lai Oboe aged 15 – Norwich School

Third prize Colette Maxwell-Preston Cello aged 17 – Norwich School

The Badminton Trust Prize for the most promising String Prize – Isaac Schaad Violin aged 14 Norwich School

The Piano Prize Theo Sanders aged 20 Royal Northern College of Music

The Norwich Chamber Music Prize for the most promising Wind Player – Jack Smith saxophone aged 17 Thomas Paine Sixth Form, Thetford.
